CARROLLTON – Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD is celebrating a strong showing in the 2025 State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness results, with several campuses demonstrating remarkable academic growth across key subjects. Student performance on STAAR tests are separated into four performance categories:

  • Masters Grade Level
  • Meets Grade Level
  • Approaches Grade Level
  • Did Not Meet Grade Level

Students who perform at or above the Approaches Grade Level standard are considered to have met the passing criteria on the state assessment.

At the elementary level, Blanton Elementary led the district with a 42-point increase in the Meets Grade Level category in third-grade reading language arts. Farmers Branch Elementary followed closely with a 35-point gain in the Approaches Grade Level category in fourth-grade Spanish reading. Fourth-grade math saw significant growth at McKamy Elementary (16 percent increase), Farmers Branch Elementary (18 percent increase) and Sheffield Elementary (25 percent increase) in Approaches Grade Level performance. McLaughlin-Strickland Elementary also saw notable progress, improving 21 points in fifth-grade science in Approaches Grade Level.

Middle schools showed impressive results as well, with Perry Middle School recording a 14-point increase in eighth-grade math and showed an eight-point gain in eighth-grade reading in Meets Grade Level — just under the double-digit threshold, but still significant when considered alongside other performance gains. Bush Middle School earned a nine-point increase in Algebra 1 in Meets Grade Level Category and a 10-point increase in Masters Grade Level category.

For high schools, Early College increased in Algebra I end-of-course performance by five points, moving from 90 percent to 95 percent.  Creekview and Turner saw increases in U.S. History in both Meets and Masters level performance categories. Ranchview High School increased from 93 percent to 96 percent in Approaches for Biology EOC. Newman Smith High School had the highest increase in the Meets performance category on the Biology EOC with a 5 percent gain.

"This kind of growth doesn’t happen by accident — it’s the result of countless hours of dedication, collaboration and belief in our students,” Kim Holcomb, assistant superintendent of leadership and learning, said. “Every intervention, lesson plan, after-school session, hallway high-five and moment of encouragement mattered. The results are more than just numbers — they reflect the passion and purpose to our mission every single day.”

“I am very proud of the progress our students have made on the STAAR assessments this year. These results show how hard our students have worked and how much support they’ve received from teachers, staff and families,” Superintendent Dr. Wendy Eldredge added. “While there’s still work to be done, we are encouraged by the growth we’ve seen and are motivated to keep pushing forward.”

CFBISD remains committed to supporting all campuses with the resources and strategies needed to ensure academic success across the board.
