Metrocrest pools go to the dogs quite literally Sept. 12, when Addison, Carrollton and Farmers Branch turn over their pools to four-legged swimmers.
All three communities are holding end-of-summer dog swimming events Saturday, Sept. 12, giving area dogs a chance to cool off after another North Texas summer.
Addison will hold Doggie Splash Day at the Addison Athletic Club outdoor pool. Small dogs get the first dip from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by large dogs from 10:45 a.m. to noon.
Advance registration is available online or at the Addison Athletic Club front desk. Dogs must have a current rabies vaccination, and humans aren't allowed in the water.
Carrollton's annual Pooch Pool Party will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex, 1334 E. Rosemeade Parkway.
In addition to swimming, the Carrollton event will include pet-friendly vendors. Carrollton West Pet Hospital will offer vaccinations on-site while supplies last, and Carrollton Animal Services will provide free city pet registration.
Admission is $10 per dog, with humans admitted free.
Dogs attending the Carrollton event must have a current rabies vaccination or receive one at the event and must be registered with the city or register there. Each dog must be accompanied by an adult. Humans aren't allowed in the pool.
Farmers Branch will also welcome canine swimmers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Frog Pond, 14032 Heartside Place.
Admission is $8 per dog and includes up to two people per dog.
The three events all take place on the same Saturday, giving dogs across the Metrocrest area one last chance to enjoy the pools before the swimming season goes to the humans again next year.
