Farmers Branch water, sewer rates to rise 12% Nov. 1

Posted

Beginning November 1, water and sewer rates will increase by 12%. The adjustment is necessary to align rates with the true cost of providing water and wastewater services and to provide resources for maintaining and improving the city's aging infrastructure.

And if you've noticed more water main breaks this summer, you've seen one of the challenges firsthand. Water and sewer infrastructure requires continuous investment to remain reliable. The city's goal isn't just to respond when a pipe breaks; it is to maintain the system, address aging infrastructure and make improvements that help prevent future problems.

What will the increase mean for your bill?

Beginning Nov. 1, the monthly minimum for up to 2,000 gallons will be $28.32 for water and $29.61 for sewer. Additional usage is charged based on the applicable rate tier. Senior and disabled residential customers will continue to receive reduced rates.

For example:

For a residential customer using 10,000 gallons in a month, the water and sewer portion of the bill will increase from approximately $105 to $117.60 for that month, an increase of $12.60. The rate adjustment is an investment in the system residents depend on every day.

Residents can take a closer look at how their water use affects their monthly bill with the city's new Water Dashboard, which launched this summer. The dashboard makes it easy to monitor water use and better understand changes in consumption. If you don't already have access, contact our Customer Success team at 972-247-3131 to get started.
