Councilmember Richard Jackson concluded his three-year term representing District 4 on the Farmers Branch City Council during the Tuesday, May 6, meeting, receiving accolades from city leadership and delivering heartfelt remarks about his service.
During the ceremony, Mayor Terry Lynne praised Jackson for his preparation and educated approach to city matters.
"You've always come prepared to meetings, well read, well studied on the issues," Lynne said. "Your arguments were from a point of education, and that is all we can hope for."
Jackson, who served from 2022 to 2025, reflected on his time in office with gratitude and nostalgia.
"When I chose to run for office, I had no agenda other than to serve a community that has served me for many, many years," Jackson said. "Very simply, my inspiration, my purpose, was service."
The departing councilmember specifically highlighted the campaign process as "one of the most thrilling periods" of his life, noting he lost 15 pounds while connecting with residents about their concerns ranging from traffic control to park budgets.
Jackson's farewell remarks expressed appreciation to District 4 residents, city staff, police and fire departments and his family– particularly his wife, who was present for the ceremony.
In recognizing the city's first responders, Jackson commended the "significant transformation" in both departments over recent years, praising their "character, authenticity and servant leadership."
"You willingly chose a role in our society where you know on any given day, you may need to put someone else's life before yours," Jackson said.
The council presented Jackson with a commemorative plaque featuring photographs from various city events and a street sign bearing his name, acknowledging both his individual service and his family's support.
