Rawhide Trail improvement on the way

Posted

Next summer, walkers, runners and bikers will not have to worry about if the trail at Rawhide Park is under water.

The Farmers Branch City Council unanimously approved trail improvements that also will include widening the path along the north side of Rawhide Creek between Webb Chapel Road and Josey Lane to 12 feet wide at the Sept. 10 city council meeting.

“There are some issues with flooding and minor repair and street work that needs done,” said Maria Minter, managing superintendent for department of public works, who is in charge of the design and bid process for what city staff is calling Rawhide Trail Phase 1.

The city received seven bids for the work with VLEX Construction LLC coming in under budget and with “great references,” Minter said.

She expects that once work begins, it will be completed within 120 days, weather permitting.

“We will use some of the existing path … where it is in the flood area, we will move it up so it’s out of that flood area,” she said.
