Pickleball venue raises the bar

After 18 months of work for the owners and waiting for pickleball enthusiasts, At Fault is open.

Celebrating with a Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting on Friday, Dec. 6, and a grand opening celebration for the community on Saturday, Dec. 7, the restaurant and entertainment venue at 2330 Jett St. is open.

Co-owner Chris Kostoulas described the effort as a family-and-friend business, saying everyone in the circle has added their effort and expertise to making the venue, “an elevated pickleball restaurant,” a phrase repeated on the venue’s website.

“This is so much more beautiful than the vision was on paper,” said Mayor Terry Lynne at the ribbon cutting ceremony. “Hats off to you and your team for what you’ve done.”

Lynne noted that the property had been a printing company before At Fault came into existence.

At Fault has five indoor and four outdoor pickleball courts and a sports bar that owner Mario Simic described as “a little louder and rowdier” than the restaurant. The scratch-kitchen restaurant has triple-paned glass windows so while patrons are courtside and can see what is happening on the pickleball courts, they have a quieter venue for talking.

Head Pro Loc Lam, a 2024 5.0 gold medalist at the World Pickleball Championships leads a team of instructors. They offer a free Pickleball 101 class for anyone interested in learning to play.

In addition, they rent paddles and balls.

Simic seemed particularly excited about the optional bracelet provided that allows players to tap to keep score and “double tap if it’s a great play.” When players finish, they can receive information about how they played.

Offering brunch, dinner and courtside options, the restaurant’s menu offers burgers and sandwiches, salad bowls and a variety of appetizers.

Limited memberships to the club will be available but aren’t required for playing pickleball or enjoying the restaurant. Pickleball leagues are planned, according to the website.
