Musical murder and mayhem come to town

Posted

A cast of new actors will take audiences for a funny but murderous romp through Edwardian England next week.

Eight of the 11 cast members will have their Firehouse Theatre debuts as part of “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” a Tony Award-winning musical comedy that runs Oct. 17 through Nov. 3 at The Firehouse Theatre.

The fast-paced tale is about low-born Monty Navarro, who discovers he’s ninth in line to a family fortune. Instead of waiting, Monty devices a plan to kill each of the relatives standing in his way.

“I’m very excited to share this hilarious musical with Firehouse audiences and introduce them to a bunch of new faces,” said Director Owen Beans, who is also associate producer for the theater. “Audiences are really in for a treat to see Micah B. Hardt, in particular, as he takes on the Tony-winning role of The D’Ysquith Family, wherein he plays NINE different characters all of which meet their demise at the hands of our protagonist, Cameron Vargas’s Monty Navarro … or is he the antagonist? You’ll have to come find out!”

The musical features a farcical love triangle and songs “I’ve Decided to Marry You” and “I Don’t Understand the Poor,” a commentary on class divides.

Firehouse favorite Molly Robinson, known for “9 to 5” and “Catch Me If You Can,” performs as music director, with fellow Firehouse favorite Caitlin Martelle, of “Newsies,” “Saturday Night Fever” and “9 to 5,” serving as assistant director and assistant choreographer.
