Six months after moving to Farmers Branch from Dallas, the Haas Moto Museum is getting its red ribbon and welcoming celebration Thursday, May 8.
Founded by Robert B. “Bobby” Haas, a Harvard-trained lawyer and investor, the Haas Moto Museum is the legacy of a man who lived multiple lives in his 74 years. His huge success in private equity, and with Dr Pepper and 7Up in particular, allowed him to explore and succeed in the diverse fields of wildlife photography and motorcycles, which Haas started riding at age 64, according to the museum’s website.
After taking up wildlife photography and becoming a photographer for National Geographic in 1994, Haas published four aerial photography coffee table books.
He began curating a motorcycle collection in the 2010s, putting together a collection of more than 230 motorcycles that now call the Haas Moto Museum home, which opened in 2018 at the corner of Oak Lawn and Market Center boulevards in the Design District of Dallas.
“Motorcycling is not simply a means of transportation, a way to ride along the street or highway… it is a cultural phenomenon,” Bobby Haas is quoted as saying on the Haas Moto Museum website. Haas died in September 2021.
The museum opened at its new location at 4301 N. Beltwood Pkwy. in November 2024.
The Haas Collection spans 13 decades and includes a collection of more than 60 custom motorcycles and an array of metallic sculptures in the 20,000-square-foot gallery.
The museum’s ribbon cutting is at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, at 4201 N. Beltwood Pkwy. Admission is free but advanced registration is helpful.
The Haas Moto Museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Visit the website for more information.
