City council certifies election results

City council officially certified the results of the May 3 general election during a special meeting Tuesday, May 13, confirming new representatives for two council districts.

The council unanimously approved Resolution 2025-074, which canvassed and declared the election results for City Council Districts 1 and 4.

Omar Roman won the District 1 seat with 232 votes, representing 63.39% of ballots cast. His opponent, Isabel Romero, received 134 votes or 36.61%. The district saw 366 total votes with 9 undervotes recorded.

In District 4, Elizabeth Villafranca secured victory with 495 votes, capturing 56.38% of the total. Challenger Deborah Bowe received 383 votes, or 43.62%. District 4 had significantly higher turnout with 878 total votes cast and 2 undervotes.

Election data shows early voting played a crucial role in both races. In District 1, Roman received 133 early in-person votes compared to 99 on election day. Villafranca secured 316 early in-person votes in District 4, with an additional 173 votes on election day.

The certification was completed with minimal discussion, as Council Member Roger Neal moved to approve the resolution, which was quickly seconded and passed.
