Two candidates applied for a place on the ballot for the Nov. 4 Constitutional Amendment, Special and Joint Election.

Lupe Gonzalez and Lilia Martinez filed their applications with the Farmers Branch City Secretary by the Sept. 3 deadline to run for Farmers Branch City Council District 1, which will be vacated by Omar Roman.

Branch Herald has sent candidate questionnaires to both candidates and will post their responses on the website and in the newsletter in early October.

There also will be a Candidate Forum at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at the Children’s Health StarCenter, ice skating rink, 12700 Stemmons Frwy.

Candidates will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and receive the same questions. Community members can send questions to be considered for the forum to news@branchherald.com. The forum will continue even if only one candidate attends.

Farmers Branch is one of seven municipalities or school districts in Dallas County to participate in the constitutional amendment, special and joint election. According to the Dallas County Elections website,  there will be 17 proposed constitutional amendments appearing on the ballot, which may be changed based on deadlines and certifications from the Texas Secretary of State. The link contains the propositions and ballot language.

The last day to register to vote is Oct. 6. Young adults who will turn 18 on or by Nov. 4, can register to vote.

Early voting is Oct. 20-31.
