Voters showed a strong preference for Tina Bennett-Burton as their next Farmers Branch City Council representative.
Bennett-Burton defeated challenger Brenda Broderick with 56 percent of the votes to Brodrick’s 38 percent.
Six percent of voters chose for Kristofer Cook, who withdrew from the race after the deadline to remove his name from the ballot.
“I am humbled, and I’m appreciative,” Bennett-Burton said. “It was a clean campaign. It was a bipartisan campaign, and we clearly showed that we can do that here in Farmers Branch.”
Dallas County Elections Department’s unofficial results showed that 2,441 voters in Farmers Branch District 2 voted in the City Council District 2 race in the 2024 General and Special Election, which culminated Tuesday, Nov. 5.
District 2 is made up of Precincts 2300, 2303 and 2310, which can be found on Dallas County Elections’ website.
Results will remain unofficial until, at the earliest, the evening of Nov. 14, when outstanding early voting mail ballots and provisional ballots will be tabulated.
Once City Secretary Stacy Henderson receives the official results, which she anticipates will be the evening of Nov. 14, Bennett-Burton can be sworn in as the new city councilmember for District 2.
Henderson anticipates Bennett-Burton will be officially sworn in Nov. 15 so she can participate in the Nov. 19 joint city council – Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School Board meeting.
Bennett-Burton will replace Martin Baird, who resigned in July, but will continue to serve through the Dec. 10 study session. Bennett-Burton will be ceremonially sworn in at the Dec. 10 city council meeting at will take her seat at the dais at that meeting.

The regular election for municipal elections is the first Saturday in May.
Terms for City Councilmembers Omar Roman, District 1, and Richard Jackson, District 4, expire in 2025.
Each city councilmember serves a three-year term, and no one can serve more than two consecutive terms or six years.
The filing period for people interested in running for those positions will be Jan. 15 through Feb. 14.
