Life Changer Golf Classic finds new home in Farmers Branch, aims to grow impact

Posted
Single Parent Advocate and the Scott Murray Foundation announced the fifth annual Life Changer Golf Classic will take place Monday, June 1, 2026, at Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas. The move to Brookhaven marks a milestone for the tournament, which organizers intend to make the event's permanent home as both organizations expand their reach across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The four-person scramble-format tournament raises funds to provide school supplies through the nonprofit's Operation Back to School program, college scholarships for single parents pursuing degrees and single-parent children working to complete their education. Proceeds are shared between Single Parent Advocate and the Scott Murray Foundation, which has provided financial assistance to DFW-area students attending community colleges and four-year universities since 1999.

Multi-Emmy Award-winning broadcaster Scott Murray returns as the tournament's celebrity emcee. Murray, who spent three decades as sports director and anchor for NBC in Dallas-Fort Worth and Washington, D.C., has been named Sportscaster of the Year 17 times and was recognized as a Living Legend of Journalism by the Press Club of Dallas. A Philanthropy World Hall of Fame inductee and recipient of the NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Distinguished Texan Award, Murray has helped raise millions of dollars for North Texas nonprofits throughout his career.

"This tournament is about changing lives — one family, one backpack, one scholarship at a time," said Stacie Martin, founder and president of Single Parent Advocate. "Moving to Brookhaven Country Club gives us the home we need to grow this event for years to come. When a single parent can stay in school or a child starts the year with the supplies they need, that's what it means to be a Life Changer."

Since 2010, Single Parent Advocate has served more than 1,600 parents and children annually in the Dallas-Fort Worth area through direct programming that moves single-parent families from crisis to stability and success. The organization's Operation Back to School program provides backpacks and essential school supplies to hundreds of children each year, and its Success Training Classes equip parents with practical tools in financial literacy, career readiness, personal development and community building.

The Scott Murray Foundation, founded in 1999, provides financial assistance to DFW-area individuals who have the desire to further their education but lack the necessary financial resources, supporting students at both community colleges and four-year institutions. The fund offered $100,000 in scholarships and assistance in a single recent cycle.

Together, the two organizations represent a shared commitment: that no parent should have to choose between their own education and their child's school supplies, and that community investment in families produces measurable, lasting change.

Why This Story Matters
The Life Changer Golf Classic addresses a real and growing need. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, nearly one in four children in Dallas County lives with a single parent. For these families, the cost of school supplies, tuition and basic stability are not abstractions — they are daily decisions. This tournament puts resources directly into the hands of families navigating those decisions while offering the DFW business community a meaningful way to invest locally.
