Taste on the Tarmac took off with a great turnout at Galaxy FBO at Addison Airport on April 2, bringing together the community for an evening of creativity, competition, and incredible flavors. The event showcased talented high school culinary students as they competed to create their best “Taste Bite,” all while supporting a meaningful cause.
A panel of celebrity judges, including Addison Mayor Bruce Arfsten, Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick, Coppell Mayor Wes Mays and Farmers Branch Mayor Terry Lynne, helped select this year’s winner. Plano East High School earned top honors while Ranchview High School captured the crowd’s vote, taking home the People’s Choice Award. Yeli Marshall of Yelibelly Chocolates generously provided prize money for the student teams.
Guests also enjoyed delicious bites and live demonstrations from Chef Marshall and Chef Richard Chamberlain of Chamberlain's Steak & Fish, adding even more flavor to the evening.
Beyond the bites and friendly competition, the event served a larger purpose, benefiting the Metrocrest Services Sack Summer Hunger Program, which helps provide meals for children in need during the summer months.
Many sponsors made this event possible, including the event host, Galaxy FBO; the Texas Restaurant Foundation, which provided a stipend to the schools for ingredients; Uncommon Chef, which provided chefs' coats for all participants; Cantina Laredo, which provided competition supplies; and Lazy Dog, which sponsored the Student Lounge.
