Dance, dogs and lifesaving skills: What’s happening in Carrollton

Thursday Night Dance for Seniors – August 13
Want to transform an ordinary Thursday into something extraordinary? Join the Carrollton Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road) for the Thursday Night Dance. This event takes place every Thursday evening from 7-9:15 p.m. A variety of entertainers are featured each week, and refreshments are provided. Participants must be 50 years old or older and possess a valid Senior Center membership or day pass or must be accompanied by someone with a membership or day pass to attend. The admission fee is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. For more information, call 972-466-4850.

Paws to Read – August 16

Children ages 5-12 are invited to practice reading aloud to the Library’s therapy dog during Paws to Read at Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane) on Sunday, August 16, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Hershey, the Library’s certified therapy dog, will be available to listen and help kids build confidence in their reading skills. Seating is limited, and tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, 15 minutes before the program begins. City Council Meeting – August 18

All are invited to attend the next Carrollton City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 18. The worksession will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber located on the second floor of City Hall (1945 E. Jackson Road). Meetings typically occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with minutes becoming available after the Council adopts them, usually at subsequent meetings. 

CPR/AED Training – August 20

Sudden cardiac arrest is a survivable event, but usually only with bystander intervention before Emergency Medical Services arrive. Join Carrollton Fire Rescue on Thursday, August 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Carrollton Fire Administration building (1111 W. Belt Line Road #100) to receive free CPR and AED use training. This class primarily focuses on compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), while also covering choking and child & infant CPR.

This course is not for those needing a nationally accredited course completion card, such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. For more information, call 972-466-9811.

Library Card Sign-up Month

Celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month this September. New members who register for a library card will receive a voucher for the Friends of the Carrollton Public Library Book Sale and be entered into a prize drawing. Existing cardholders can join the celebration by participating in month-long challenges. A library card unlocks access to a diverse range of free resources, including books, audiobooks, movies, programs, and more. 

Boards & Commission Applications – September 4

The City of Carrollton is accepting applications for its 2026 Boards & Commissions. Residents are encouraged to get involved in the community by serving in areas that matter to them. City governments rely on volunteers serving on boards and committees. Member input plays an important role in shaping Carrollton's future and public policy. Want to learn more?
