Town of Addison
At its October 13 meeting, the Addison City Council approved a five-year, $134,355 agreement with Axon Enterprise to establish the Addison Police Department's first drone program. The agreement includes two Skydio drones, software, training, and equipment replacement.
The drones can help locate missing persons, identify criminal suspects, capture aerial images of crash and crime scenes, and improve situational awareness during major events. They can also help officers inspect rooftops and search buildings while reducing their exposure to potentially dangerous situations. The drones will be used for specific public safety operations and not for routine surveillance of residents or neighborhoods.
Officers will receive specialized training, including FAA certification and instruction on privacy laws and evidence handling. The Town will fund the program through its Child Safety Fund.
