Registration Open for June 6 Carrollton Tails & Trails 5K & Fun Run/Walk

The City invites all ages to lace up their running shoes and start training for the Carrollton Trails & Tails 5K on Saturday, June 6.  All proceeds benefit the Carrollton Animal Services & Adoption Center. Register by Monday, June 1 to guarantee a race T-shirt. All participants will receive a race packet. Bibs and timing chips will be provided only to 5K participants, as the Fun Run/Walk is not timed. The event includes a Fun Run/Walk, making it a great outing for the whole family, and don’t forget the canine kids. Dogs do not need to be registered to participate. The race begins at 8 a.m. at Josey Ranch Sports Complex (1440 Keller Springs Road) and will meander along the City’s Green Trail.

Everyday People: The Art of James E. Ransome Exhibit opens

The Josey Ranch Lake Library will host Everyday People: The Art of James E. Ransome through Saturday, August 1. This free, all-ages exhibit showcases the acclaimed illustrator’s oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings celebrating everyday life and joyful moments. Ransome, known for illustrating more than 75 books, has received multiple honors, including the Coretta Scott King Award for Illustration. The exhibit is organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene.

Applications for the Teen Advisory Council open June 1

Join fellow teens in grades 9-12 to help plan upcoming library programs and participate in decisions regarding teen services. This is a great opportunity to earn volunteer credit while collaborating with peers. Applications will remain open through Saturday, August 1. Youth Fishing Event – June 6

Discover the joy of fishing at the City of Carrollton’s Youth Fishing Event on Saturday, June 6, from 9-11 a.m. at Josey Ranch Sports Complex Pond (1440 Keller Springs Road). Grab a fishing pole and experience the thrill of that first bite, as the pond will be generously stocked with adult catfish. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department designates the first Saturday of June as Free Fishing Day, so no fishing license is required to participate.

Prizes and trophies for the longest and second-longest fish will be awarded in three age categories: 6 and under, 7-11, and 12-16. Young anglers are encouraged to bring their own gear, but loaner rods, reels, bait, and tackle will be available to those who need them. Volunteers from The Colony Bass Club and Dallas Fly Fishers will be onsite to answer questions and help educate youth anglers on baiting a hook and casting a line. The Quarterly Art Gallery – June 6

Experience art at the Rosemeade Recreation Center on Saturday, June 6 from 10-11 a.m. The opening reception is free and open to the public. Come meet this month’s featured artist, Faris Rushing.

Momentum Monday: Biz Builders: Introduction to Franchising – June 8

Interested in exploring the franchising industry? Discover the keys to self-sufficiency through franchising at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Monday, June 8, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Have questions answered by City staff, and learn why Carrollton is the community that families and businesses want to call home. Register for the SCORE small business workshop.

Momentum Monday: Biz Builders takes place on the second Monday of each month and features a new topic each session. Upcoming topics can be found on the Carrollton Public Library website.

City Council Meeting – June 9

All are invited to attend the next Carrollton City Council meeting on Tuesday, June 9. The worksession will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber located on the second floor of City Hall (1945 E. Jackson Road). Meetings typically occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with minutes becoming available after the Council adopts them, usually at subsequent meetings.

Thursday Night Dance – June 11

Want to transform an ordinary Thursday into something extraordinary? Join the Carrollton Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road) for Thursday Night Dance. Held every Thursday evening from 7-9:15 p.m., the event features a variety of entertainers and complimentary refreshments. Participants must be 50 years old or older and possess a valid Senior Center membership or day pass, or be accompanied by someone who does. The admission fee is $5 for residents and $7 for non-residents. For more information, call 972-466-4850.

Sounds on the Square – June 12

Join the City of Carrollton for the Sounds on the Square music series from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, June 12, in Historic Downtown Carrollton (1106 S. Broadway Street). This community-focused live music series highlights the Downtown Square with monthly performances from talented local artists and performers. This month’s performer is country music singer/songwriter Derek Skelton.

Come early to grab a bite from one of the many eclectic restaurants and then shop at the unique stores and boutiques surrounding the square. Attendees are encouraged to bring friends, family, and some lawn chairs to get cozy. For more information, call 972-466-9135.

CPR/AED Training – June 18

Sudden cardiac arrest is a survivable event, but usually only with bystander intervention before Emergency Medical Services arrive. Join Carrollton Fire Rescue on Thursday, June 18 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Carrollton Fire Administration building (1111 W. Belt Line Road #100) to receive free CPR and AED use training. This class primarily focuses on compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), while also covering choking, and child & infant CPR.

This course is not for those needing a nationally accredited course completion card, such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. For more information, call 972-466-9811.

Special Needs Swim Night – June 19

Children and adults with special needs, their families, and caregivers are invited to a pool party from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex (1334 E. Rosemeade Parkway). The pool will be open for extended hours, giving those with special needs the opportunity to enjoy swimming and splashing in a quieter, less crowded, environment. Children under the age of 2 get in free when accompanied by an adult. Season pass holders receive a $2 discount.

Korean Folktales – June 20

Join members of the Korean American Youth Artist of Texas (KAYAT) at Josey Ranch Lake Library on Saturday, June 20, at 10:15 a.m. for Korean folktales and a craft activity. All materials will be provided, but space is limited. Tickets will be available 15 minutes before the event on a first-come, first-served basis. Funded in summer 2021, KAYAT is led by Korean American teenagers aiming to bridge the gap between Korean American children and their Korean ancestry.

Swim in Cinema – June 20

Bring your friends, family, and floats to Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex (1334 E. Rosemeade Parkway) on Saturday, June 20, from 7-10:30 p.m. for the annual Swim-In Cinema. Open swim will be available from 7 p.m. until dusk, followed by a screening of the animated film Lilo & Stitch (2025), P
