Utility providers to perform maintenance

Posted

Atmos Energy announced it will perform routine maintenance that will not interrupt any service in the upcoming 10 days. In addition, Oncor has contracted with The Arbor Experts to prune trees and remove vegetation from power lines.

The Atmos service is scheduled from 5:30-6:30 p.m. daily Tuesday, Aug. 6 through Friday, Aug. 9, and Tuesday, Aug. 13, near the intersection of Valley View Lane and Nicholson Road. The maintenance will result in the safe removal of natural gas, and residents may hear a noise and smell the “rotten egg” smell caused by mercaptan, the odorant that gives natural gas its distinct odor.

“Atmos Energy is committed to protecting and preserving the environment, and this procedure is a necessary, safe and standard industry practice used to extract natural gas from an isolated section of the pipeline,” the public utility company said in a press statement.

Atmos said customers will not  experience any service interruption while the work is performed and that city officials, 911 operators and emergency responders have been advised of the work.

Separately, Oncor representatives have been knocking on doors to talk to homeowners and give green flyers letting residents know they will be clearing branches from power lines.

The flyer says that if residents are not home when the work is done, the company “will proceed in a professional manner with any necessary pruning and clean-up.”

Residents with questions concerning the work are directed to call Oncor at (800) 518-2375. For more information, visit oncor.com/vegetation.
