North Texas currently faces a blood shortage as hospital requests have exceeded the available supply, drawing down the local blood supply by about 35% over the past month. The shortage is especially serious for platelets and types O, A negative and B negative blood.
According to Carter BloodCare, donors must be at least 16 years old, be in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a valid government or school ID. Sixteen-year-olds also must have a signed parental consent form.
