Lions celebrate homecoming with parade

Posted

R.L. Turner High School’s homecoming parade brought plenty of Turner blue to Josey Lane Wednesday, Sept. 10, with a new route that showcased school spirit while keeping the community’s needs in mind.

This year’s path circled in front of the high school on Josey Lane after school representatives contacted the City of Farmers Branch’s Community Services Department about holding the parade. Because a formal parade permit process does not currently exist, no permit was filed. City staff said they are discussing the creation of a specific event permit for parades, but it has not yet been implemented.

To balance community enthusiasm with smoother traffic flow and business needs along Josey Lane, Farmers Branch officials suggested alternate routes that would minimize disruptions while still letting Turner’s pride shine.

Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick and Police Chief Roberto Arrendondo led the parade, followed by Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District Superintendent Wendy Eldredge and the district’s trustees.

Students and families lined the sidewalks, waving as the school’s band and orchestra played, cheerleaders and Lionettes danced and trailers filled with athletes from the school’s many teams and clubs rolled by.
