Posted

For National Toilet Paper Day, Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Rotary Club collected that essential bathroom product for Metrocrest Services.

The club and social services organization met at El Rincon in Carrollton to gather toilet paper, build community and share a margarita, beer or queso at the restaurant. By 8 p.m., long-time Rotarian and Metrocrest Services volunteer Mark Sutherland estimated the club had received a donation of about 2,000 rolls of toilet paper. The club will purchase about 10,000 additional rolls.

The fourth year the CFB Rotary has organized a toilet paper drive. Sutherland estimated that they donate 13,000-15,000 rolls each year. He said toilet paper is the largest item on their pantry budget.

According to their website, Metrocrest Services can purchase toilet paper in bulk at a reduced rate. Those who missed National Toilet Paper Day but want to continue to help the cause can visit their website and donate directly for toilet paper or learn how to organize other toilet paper drives.

"Every $68 donation allows us to purchase 136 rolls of toilet paper for neighbors in need," according to the website.

National Toilet Paper Day is celebrated annually on Aug. 26 to mark the anniversary of the first sale of of toilet paper on a roll in the United States in 1871.
