AUSTIN, TX - Senator Tan Parker announced today that he will serve as Chair of the Texas Senate Committee on Transportation following his appointment by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.
The Senate Committee on Transportation is one of the Legislature's most significant committees, overseeing policy related to Texas highways, infrastructure planning, mobility, public transit, and emerging transportation technologies. The committee plays a critical role in addressing the demands of Texas' continued population growth and economic expansion.
"I am deeply honored to be entrusted with this responsibility," said Senator Parker. "Texas is growing at an extraordinary pace, and with that growth comes the need for thoughtful, forward-looking infrastructure policy. As Chair, I am committed to advancing solutions that improve mobility, enhance safety, and support long-term economic prosperity across our state."
In this new role, Senator Parker will lead the committee's work on key issues including highway development, freight and logistics corridors, traffic safety initiatives, and coordination with state and regional transportation entities, including the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
"As we look ahead, it is essential that Texas remains proactive in meeting the transportation needs of our communities," Parker added. "At its core, transportation is a family value - getting our children safely to school and activities and ensuring Texans can spend less time on the road and more time with their families and doing the things they love. I look forward to working collaboratively with my colleagues, stakeholders, and local partners to keep Texas moving."
Senator Parker will begin serving as Chair immediately.
Senator Parker represents Senate District 12, a region of North Texas encompassing portions of Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties, and all of Wise County.
