Sammie Jo Perry

Sammie Jo Perry left this world on Thursday May 1, 2025. She was proceeded in death by her husband James Perry of Carrollton and Farmers Branch, her parents, Sam and Georgia Davis of Farmers Branch.

She is survived by her son Joe Perry and daughter-in-law Sherry Perry, her cousins Carol Benefiel of Bishop, California, and Charles Wright of Mansfield, Texas, brothers-in-law Ed Perry and Earl Perry, sister-in-law Martha Perry. Also, dear friend and care taker Rhonda Dickerson. She will be missed by many other family and friends.

Sammie graduated from Farmers Branch High School and went on to graduate from NTSU, now UNT. She got her Masters degree and pursued her Doctorate at TWU.

Sammie held membership at Christ United Methodist Church in Farmers Branch, Texas. She was a long-time educator in Beaumont, Texas, Norcross, Ga, Gainesville, Texas, finally retiring in the mid-90s as the Director of Special Education of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD.

In 2022, she co-authored a book with Rev. Joe Schafer, Bringing Methodism to Dallas County,  A 176-year History of WEBB CHAPEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. The church she was christened in as a baby, was married in, and remained a member of until it closed in 2021.

She was a charter member of the CFBISD Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, and Texas Retired Teachers Association, also, she enjoyed her membership in the Farmers Branch Womens club. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge with her close friends, reading, and dining out.

In 2023, Sammie was awarded the Farmers Branch Witness to History Award by the Farmers Branch City Council and the Historical Preservation and Restoration Board.

Her memorial service will be at North Dallas Funeral Home in Farmers Branch Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m.
