The best stories start over a meal. The Branch Herald is counting on it.

The Branch Herald will hold its first "Off the Record" community lunch Saturday, April 25, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Crossbuck BarBQ, 4400 Spring Valley Rd. in Farmers Branch.

The event is free and open to the public. Simmons Bank is sponsoring a soft drink for each attendee. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.

Off the Record is designed to be exactly what its name suggests, informal, unscripted and candid. There is no agenda, no prepared remarks and no presentations. The Branch Herald plans to hold similar events that rotate between Farmers Branch, Addison and Carrollton on a semi-regular basis.

In newsrooms, "off the record" describes the conversations where people speak freely, away from official statements and prepared talking points. The Branch Herald is bringing that spirit to the table, literally.

“This is where we build community. No agenda, no microphone, just neighbors talking,” Publisher Kate Bergeron said. “We want to hear your concerns and your good news about your neighborhood, your city. We also want to hear what you think we could do better.”

Tickets for the April 25 lunch are available here. This is an open table event. Grab your free drink. Buy your lunch and pull up a seat with Publisher Kate Bergeron.
