Pakistani gem shines on Midway

Posted

Pakistani cuisine has grown in popularity in Texas over these recent years, especially in Dallas. Even the City of Farmers Branch has a restaurant serving this fare. Located at the crossroad of Midway and Alpha roads, BK Khan BBQ is a Pakistani restaurant serving various barbeques and many other dishes that originate from that country. Once their doors open at 4 p.m., it doesn’t take long for it to be packed with hungry customers.

I went there myself one Friday evening to see what makes it such an admired location. My acquaintance and I never had Pakistani food before, so the staff recommended a number of items to try. Beef Hibari Kebab, Chicken Bihari Kebab, Butter Naan and a bowl of Basmati Rice for each of us. This order gave us a surface understanding of the new cuisine.

The main dishes, the kebabs, were certainly an introduction. One assumption is that Pakistani cuisine is always packed with hefty spices, and while not entirely true, the kebabs certainly contained it. The beef was highly strong with its flavors, along with being incredibly soft. It melted in my mouth. Its spice will also kicked the instant I tasted it. It is an excellent sample for spice lovers, but for those who can’t handle spicy food, I would suggest trying some of their other items.

The chicken is similar to the beef, also with a kick, although not as strong. It has a perfect blend of flavor of meat and spice without either one overpowering the other. The barbeque proportions may seem small, but we found them filling.

In addition, rice fills out the meal. One bowl is nearly the same amount as the kebab. A waiter provided complementary lentil curry for the rice, which worked well together.

The workers are willing to offer anything else for your order. My meal came with the water I ordered, but they gave me a soft drink halfway through my meal.

The Butter Naan is a savory flatbread that you use to scoop up your meat. The combination is mouthwatering. We were a bit worried that one order of naan wouldn’t be enough for the both of us, but the size did not disappoint.

The location is quite lively. The music fits with the theme, and the other customers aren’t shy with speaking. It’s a place where you can dress up, but they won’t judge you for being more casual.

BK Khan BBQ will welcome anyone in and provide authentic Pakistani dishes. The food isn’t the same spicy choice and has a variety of options. It is friendly for those who come with family, with friends or even alone. As long as you're willing to try something new, and can handle heat on your taste buds, this is a certified recommendation.

I give BK Kahn BBQ a 9 out of 10 stars.
