Metrocrest Services holiday store brings joy to local families

Posted

Metrocrest Services transformed two classrooms into a holiday toy store, allowing parents to shop for new toys for their children during the holiday season.

The holiday store opened Tuesday, Dec. 10, and runs through Friday, Dec. 19, at the Metrocrest Services facility at 1145 N. Josey Lane in Carrollton.

Approximately 1,000 families will shop for 2,700 children during appointment-based visits.

"People are always amazed," said Tracy Eubanks, CEO of Metrocrest Services. "People say, we can get a bike. Are you kidding me? Get a bike. Yeah. Bikes are popular. Sports balls are popular."

The holiday store allows parents on limited incomes to select unwrapped toys based on family size. Personal shoppers help families navigate the store, which features new bikes, games, sports equipment and gift cards.

In addition to toys, families can select winter coats and non-perishable food items during their visit.

"We want people coming in who are our neighbors to know that we care about them," Eubanks said. "We love them and we want to make sure that they get the best service possible."

Eubanks noted that one category proves challenging every year: gifts for teenagers. "The one area we struggle every year is gifts for teens," he said. "People don't know what to buy."

To address this, the organization stocks gift cards as backup options for older children.

Families must enroll in advance and schedule appointments via email. The program serves residents of Addison, Carrollton, Coppell, Farmers Branch and the city of Dallas in Denton County. For enrollment information, visit metrocrestservices.org or call 972-446-2100.
