For years, Debbi Hull has been one of the familiar faces quietly helping hold Farmers Branch together, greeting visitors, volunteering at community events and serving wherever she is needed.

This month, that work was recognized with one of the highest honors a local Masonic lodge can bestow on a non-member.

On Saturday, May 9, Hull received the Masonic Grand Lodge of Texas Community Builder Award during a ceremony hosted by James A. Smith Lodge No. 395 in Farmers Branch.

The award recognizes Texans who demonstrate exceptional service, leadership and dedication to their communities. In a letter inviting community members to the ceremony, John Bowsher, treasurer for the lodge, described Hull as someone whose contributions have had a lasting impact on Farmers Branch.

During the presentation, Bowsher praised Hull’s unselfishness, boundless energy and heart for service, noting her volunteer work at the Farmers Branch Police Department, where she is known for all who pass through the doors with a warm smile.

Michael Brashears, senior warden of the lodge, told Hull during the ceremony, “I think we can learn a few things from you, just by you being you.”

Hull is also well known through St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church and her volunteer efforts connected to the Branch Connection, the Farmers Branch Fire Department and other community outreach activities. Social media posts from the fire department over the years have repeatedly highlighted Hull’s role helping with neighborhood events and community engagement efforts alongside St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.

In a city where many volunteers work quietly behind the scenes, the afternoon served as a public reminder that some of Farmers Branch’s strongest community builders are often the people who simply keep showing up year after year.
