Local residents and businesses can ask questions and hear from their elected state representatives on Dec. 12.
Dallas College and Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce are teaming up for a legislative send-off, giving local Texas legislators an opportunity to hear from their constituents and share their vision for the 89th Texas Legislative Session, which starts Jan. 14 and ends June 2.
In addition, the Metrocrest Chamber of Commerce will share information about its Government Affairs Committee’s legislative priorities.
The event is 4-6 p.m, Thursday, Dec. 12, at Dallas College’s Brookhaven Campus, in the Early College High School Building V.
Rep. Ben Bumgarner (HD63), Rep. Cassandra Hernandez (HD115), Rep. Matt Shaheen (HD66), Rep. Mitch Little (HD65), Rep. Rafael Anchía (HD103), Sen. Angela Paxton (SD8), Sen. Brent Hagenbuck (SD30), and Sen. Tan Parker (SD12) have been invited to the event.
The Texas Constitution limits the legislature’s regular session to 140 days, starting on the second Tuesday of January of each odd-numbered year. After the end of a regular session, the governor can call a special session to cover a specific topic, which is limited to 30 days.
The 88th Texas Legislature, which met from Jan. 10, 2023, to May 29, 2023, had four special sessions called by Gov. Greg Abbott.
