More than 260 runners gathered at Tommy Standridge Stadium on April 25 for Kacie’s Run, an annual event honoring the memory of Kaitlin “Kacie” Jo Brekhus while raising funds for the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) All Stars Special Olympics team.
The morning included a 1-mile Family Fun Run followed by a 5K and awards ceremony. The event supports Special Olympics athletes across CFBISD.
Kacie, a 2003 graduate of R.L. Turner High School, was deeply involved in supporting Special Olympics athletes and served as student coordinator for the school’s Torch Run. She died in a traffic accident during her freshman year at The University of Texas at Austin. The event continues her legacy of service and student involvement while helping provide opportunities for CFBISD’s All Stars athletes.
