The final suspect in a violent home invasion and murder that occurred in October 2022 at 14228 Heritage Circle in Farmers Branch has been arrested.
Triston Calvillo, 21, has been charged with capital murder in connection with the shooting that led to the death of Ramon Zapata.
On October 13, 2022, Calvillo and other suspects, Manuel Ramos, Antoni Arias, Raymundo Gonzalez and Joey Fraire forced their way into the Zapata’s apartment in an attempted burglary, and subsequently shot Zapata while trying to flee, which resulted in his death. Detectives were able to identify and arrest Ramos, Arias and Gonzalez and charge them with capital murder.
Fraire, 18, was killed in a shootout with officers from the Dallas Police Department while they attempted to take him into custody for the Farmers Branch offense on Jan. 18, 2023.
Calvillo was identified as the primary suspect in the offense by FBPD detectives but fled the area to avoid apprehension.
On June 15, 2024, the Mesquite Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle believed to be occupied by Calvillo. After a vehicle pursuit across several North Texas cities, the vehicle eventually came to a stop at the South Pointe Apartment complex in Dallas, where the occupants of the vehicle exited and proceeded to flee on foot.
Calvillo was discovered hiding in the bushes of the apartment complex. Upon seeing officers, Calvillo fled on foot once again before being apprehended and taken to the Dallas County Jail.
Numerous agencies were involved in the searching, tracking, and apprehension of Calvillo in connection with this case, including the North Texas Fugitive Task Force—Charlie Team, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, Dallas Police Department, FBI Violent Crimes Task Force, Grand Prairie Police Department, Mesquite Police Department, Richardson Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Department of Public Safety Aircraft Operations Division and the Texas Rangers .
Calvillo is charged with capital murder by terror threat/other felony, evading arrest detention, insufficient bond - assault causing bodily injury family violence and probation violation - aggravated assault with deadly weapon.
