Since adopting its first Sustainability Plan in February 2022, the City of Farmers Branch has made incredible strides, earning a LEED for Cities Gold Certification and a spot on the Texan by Nature Top 20 list for conservation. The city’s energy initiatives are already paying off, with 3.3 million kWh produced by city-owned solar panels and 2,300 residents switching to 100% renewable electricity plans. From securing $197,000 in grants for lighting and EV infrastructure to supporting 867 registered electric vehicles with 17 new charging ports, the city is projected to see $140,000 in energy savings over the next 20 years. Resource conservation is just as strong, with 1.1 million gallons of water saved annually and thousands of tons of waste diverted from landfills.
On top of that, 800 new trees delivered to residents are helping sequester 1.7 million pounds of CO2. These results are a fantastic reflection of the vision and hard work the City of Farmers Branch staff and leadership have poured into these initiatives. Seeing such a big impact in just a few years is truly inspiring, so keep up the momentum—every gallon saved and tree planted is building a more resilient, vibrant future for this community!
