To mark eight decades of service, the Farmers Branch Police Department has unveiled a new badge, a shield that ties the department's daily work to the city's founding story.

The badge was publicly recognized during the Tuesday, Feb. 17 City Council meeting.

The gold badge features the Farmers Branch city logo set against an outline of the state of Texas, flanked by the years 1946 and 2026. A bicentennial emblem anchors the top of the shield and "Farmers Branch Police" arches across the bottom banner.

Christian Grisales, former public information officer for the city, addressed the council during the celebration.

"Tonight we are celebrating a very special milestone, our 80th anniversary," Grisales said. "The City of Farmers Branch commemorates eight decades of growth since its incorporation on February 23rd, 1946. Join us as we honor the memories, progress, and community spirit that makes this city the place we are proud to call home."

Farmers Branch was incorporated following an election held on February 23, 1946, with William Dodson elected as the city's first mayor. What began as a small farming community north of Dallas has grown into a thriving suburb.

The Farmers Branch Police Department, led by Chief Kevin McCoy, operates two divisions in Patrol and Support Services, and also runs a bike patrol and police dog unit. The official 80th anniversary date fell on Feb. 23.
