A few hundred votes could decide who runs Farmers Branch

Farmers Branch voters head back to the polls to decide who will serve as the city's next mayor, and this time, every single vote will matter even more than it did May 3.

Early voting starts Monday, June 1, and runs through June 9. Neither incumbent Mayor Terry Lynne nor challenger Jaime Rivas cleared 50% of the vote in the May 3 general election, sending the race to a second round. Election Day is Saturday, June 13.

If you need a refresher on where the candidates stand on the issues, the Branch Herald has published full candidate questionnaires on our elections page. Both candidates answered the same questions, and their responses are published in full without editing.

As the Branch Herald has covered, local elections in Farmers Branch are decided by a remarkably small slice of registered voters. In past cycles, a few hundred ballots have been the margin in competitive races. In a runoff, which typically draws far fewer voters than a general election, that gap narrows even further.

The mayor's seat carries influence over a range of issues that affect daily life in Farmers Branch, from street maintenance and water infrastructure to how the city engages with regional partners like DART, and how City Hall handles questions of transparency and public trust.

Read the questionnaires. Show up by June 13.

Editor's Note: As of publication on Tuesday, May 26, countywide voting locations for this election had not been posted on the Dallas County Elections website.
