City Council, DART & Election Info

Posted

We have several points to make for your information and action. First, be aware of the significance of the special called Farmers Branch City Council meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, Feb. 24. It begins at 4 p.m. with public comment. If you wish to speak, have your form submitted to the city secretary well before then. WHY should you go speak? Because the topic is the DART pullout vote currently scheduled for the May election.  The agenda link is here.

This is your last chance to speak to the council before they retire to executive session to consider if they will rescind, or continue with, the vote to pull out of DART. At least three council members need to be convinced of the best course of action, which Branch Vision believes is to stay in DART, especially in light of the recent changes. For good background information, here is a link to DATA, Dallas Area Transit Alliance, a grassroots organization promoting public transit in this area.

ATTEND, SPEAK, CONVINCE!

Next point, a quick reiteration of our last discussion about voting in the Primary election ... Do it early! Early voting is going on now at several spots around Farmers Branch, including the Envision building on Valley View Road, near Mercer Crossing. Vote early!! The locations change drastically on voting day, and you can only vote at your party and precinct. It will be a mess. It's a long ballot, do your homework and remember, your vote counts a lot in primaries because a lot of people tend to not go out, PLUS, if your district is strong in the party you vote for, the primary winner will probably win the election.

Finally, for the upcoming Farmers Branch mayoral and council election, we will be gathering information to make our recommendations for the candidates.
