Posted

The American Legion Family of Carrollton is collecting donations to support the family of Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, a 19-year-old Carrollton soldier who was killed in action while serving in Jordan.

According to the U.S. Department of the Army, Gonzales, a Hebron High School graduate, was killed during an enemy attack July 17 at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan. The incident remains under investigation. She was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, 52nd Air Defense Artillery Brigade, 10th Army Air Missile Defense Command in Ansbach, Germany. Another soldier, 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan of Hawaii, also was killed in the attack.

American Legion Post 597 Commander John Norsworthy said the post is accepting donations to help Gonzales' family with immediate and future needs.

"Every contribution, no matter the amount, is a meaningful expression of gratitude, compassion, and remembrance," the post said in its announcement.

Post 597 said it will distribute 100% of the funds raised to Gonzales' mother. The organization, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, said it will not retain any management fees, and donors may request a tax-deductible receipt.

More information about the fundraiser is available through American Legion Post 597's fund-raising link.
