A quick thank you, and an invitation

Dear Branch Herald Members,

First, thank you.

This work is possible only because readers like you believe local journalism matters. Your financial support is what allows the Branch Herald to keep going, to cover city council meetings, school board sessions, elections and transit decisions that don't make the front page anywhere else. You decided this coverage was worth paying for. That means more than I can say.

This summer is shaping up to be an important one for Farmers Branch, Addison and Carrollton, and we're keeping a close eye on several stories that will have lasting effects on our communities.

In Farmers Branch, voters are deciding the mayoral runoff election. Whatever the outcome, we'll be watching what comes next and how the result shapes city leadership, council dynamics and the issues facing residents in the months ahead.

In Addison, questions remain about the future of Addison Orbit and how local leaders will balance transportation needs, costs and community expectations. We're watching how Orbit performs, how residents actually use it and what it signals about where regional transit is headed. We'll continue following those discussions, along with the ongoing conversations surrounding DART and regional transit across North Texas.

We're also staying focused on Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Thanks to a generous donation from one of our supporters, we've secured funding to continue dedicated school board coverage through June. As the district navigates facility changes, enrollment shifts, budget decisions and ongoing concerns about transparency and safety following recent teacher arrests, we'll be there asking questions and providing context. School board decisions reach into every family in this community. We are not letting those stories drop.

Just as important, we'll continue covering the community stories that make this area special: neighborhood events, local nonprofits, businesses, schools and the people working every day to strengthen Metrocrest.

And then there’s FIFA World Cup. It’s going to affect us all starting next week.

I also want to personally invite you to our next Off the Record community conversation, which takes place on Saturday, June 20. I apologize for the short notice. Information about the gathering will be included in tomorrow's newsletter, but I wanted our members to hear about it first.

There isn't really a capacity limit, so please feel free to bring a neighbor, friend or family member who cares about our community and wants to talk about local issues. These conversations help shape our coverage, and they're one of my favorite parts of running the Branch Herald.

If you'd like to join us, you can register here:

I’ll have a limited amount of individual cakes from Tiers by Alex, again thanks to the generosity of a member, to give away to those who sign up for the newsletter or buy a membership. It will also be an opportunity to check out and support the American Legion in Carrollton.

Thank you for trusting us, supporting us and helping build stronger local journalism in Farmers Branch, Addison and Carrollton. We couldn't do this without you.

See you around town,
