2023 accountability ratings show increase in student achievement 

TEA released Carrollton-Farmers Branch Indepedent School District's 2023 District and Campus Ratings, announcing the district’s rating of a high C (78). The 2023 Accountability Ratings reflect data from the 2022-23 school year. CFB saw success in student achievement, accounting for a five-percent increase.

Ratings also showed the main area of need is to continue providing high-quality resources to our teachers. 

Like many districts, CFB’s rating reflects a 10-point drop from 2022. It is important to note that this decline is not due to a drop in student performance, but is the result of goal posts shifting in the middle of the game. 

The 2023 ratings have been delayed for almost two years due to litigation over grading-criteria changes made mid-year by the commissioner.

These changes have made it substantially more difficult for campuses to earn high marks. Statewide, the new 2023 Accountability Ratings will show fewer schools receiving A or B ratings, and more being labeled with C, D or even F. 

Summary of 2023 mid-year changes to calculation methodology:

• District ratings are now calculated by weighting each campus’s rating based on their third through 12th-grade enrollment.
• College, Career and Military Readiness standards were updated to require high schools to send 88 percent of their seniors to college, a trade or technical school or the military, compared to 60 percent in the past.
• The method in which academic growth calculations are scored and categorized were significantly changed in the School Progress domain.
• Performance targets for student groups in the Closing the Gaps domain were revised.

As a result, 2023 ratings will be different, and not comparable to 2022 or earlier.
